The Place Partnership Expansion (PPE) is an exciting programme launched by Sport England to revitalise local communities through physical activity, movement and sport. The PPE programme seeks to provide positive experiences for children and young people, increase physical activity, tackle inactivity, and provide local solutions to inequalities that prevent residents from being more physically active. It’s a strategic move towards tailored, community-specific solutions that promote active, healthy and inclusive lifestyles.

As part of this project we have spoken to people in Harlow to find out the barriers to being more active and moving more, helping to break down those barriers and find a suitable activity.
As part of the this project, we deliver Essex Pedal Power, Harlow.
The scheme provides FREE high-quality bikes to eligible residents who are referred by locally trusted organisations. Everyone who receives a bike will also be provided with a helmet, lock, pump and lights, and can access free learn-to-ride and cycle confidence training sessions with qualified instructors. The Essex Pedal Power team will also support recipients to maintain their bike.
The scheme aims to provide a low-cost and sustainable mode of travel, helping Harlow residents to access employment, education opportunities and key local services.
The Essex Pedal Power team will work with the community to create new cycling groups, providing more opportunities to cycle and help people develop social connections through cycling.
