About us

What we do

Rainbow Services works for change to alleviate the effects of disadvantage, deprivation and social exclusion through imaginative projects that support, enable and develop people and organisations, and which stimulate beneficial change in the Harlow community and beyond.  Established in Harlow in 1999, we achieve this aim with the following delivery:

  • The Community Builder project supports older residents to create and maintain weekly social clubs, as well as organising day trips and special events. We also facilitate access to crucial health and wellbeing services and other beneficial community activities.
  • The Community Hub is a partnership project between Rainbow Services, Citizens Advice Harlow and Harlow Foodbank. We offer a range of services for all Harlow residents affected by crisis situations, as well as information on community and social activities, energy efficiency, access to volunteering and health screening.
  • We offer free support to not-for-profit groups and organisations in Harlow. Whether you have an idea you want to grow or are already a large charity looking for advice – we can help. We support groups like yours across Harlow for free.
  • Through our Family Contact Centre we offer a helping hand, providing a safe, neutral and fun place for supported contact to take place once a week on a Saturday morning. Sessions are led by our team of wonderful volunteers. We help parents move from initial application, through supported contact at our centre, to in most cases, eventual unsupported contact outside the centre.
  • We work with young people who have disengaged from school. Our Youth Workers support young people in our purpose-built carpentry workshop in Harlow, helping them gain qualifications while re-engaging them with positive role models, community activities, and education. We provide a range of courses and activities for young people aged 14 to 18.
  • Through the Our Health Matters project we connect people with essential healthcare services and empower them to make positive changes to improve their quality of life. If you have a health condition, and need help identifying and accessing services, we offer confidential advice and the opportunity for peer-to-peer support

Statement of Values

Rainbow Services aims to alleviate poverty, disadvantage and social exclusion by providing quality services. Where appropriate we will undertake research to identify unmet need within our community and wherever possible we will encourage community development through the provision of accessible and affordable services.

Harlow is a diverse and complex town with diverse and complex communities, and here at Rainbow Services we continue to put emphasis on our mission to ‘work for change’. In order to do this, we aim to find better ways of working together, sharing resources, and fostering communication between communities, statutory services, and the sector to enhance the lives of people living and working in Harlow. Your thoughts and ideas on how to do this are welcomed – do get in touch.
